Welcome to WordPress. This is your first post. Edit or delete it, then start blogging!
No actually this is my first post (at least to this WordPress blog)! I’ll have to admit that this is harder than my first program in BASIC declaring “Hello World” for whatever reason. I mean why can’t I just move a html file over to the directory on this server? Why all this rigermaroll? Thank heaven for all these Wizards, just ran the appropriate one and walla, instant BLOG! Why am I doing this rather than just use blogspot or whatever, hell why am I really even doing this? Hopefully, we’ll come with something useful. BTW what the hell is a Permalink? I guess we’ll see.
As a side note, I chose WordPress since I had heard about it through the grapevine and it seemed arguably the most popular anyways. As you might have noticed I did initially start with the Google blogging product but have opted for a real web hosting solution. Figured I’d learn something useful at the very least and oh yeah, it’s awesome to have your very own domain.
Blogging Tip for Complete Naives #1 (BTCN#1) – Don’t go and download WordPress as instructed on their site. Your web host might already have it on their server. This won’t save you a whole lot of time, but then you don’t have to worry, for the time being at least, about uploading their files to the server. I say for “the time being at least” because I don’t want to figure it out yet.
BTCN#2 – There might be a plugin available to transfer any blogging you’ve done to the WordPress format. Try a Internet search or use the “Plugin” tab on the left hand side of the WordPress dashboard to get you stared.
I know I’m skipping a whole bunch of steps, just mentioning stuff that may not be intuitive. Contact me if you need more details (remember though I’m learning this on the fly!)
Picture of me in the go-cart was chosen just because I happened to be playing with the scanner and this particular shot. Top speed was only 75 MPH but since one sits only a few inches off the ground felt plenty fast!!!
